Mobile devices are accounting for more search clicks. A recent survey carried out showed that 10% of search ad clicks in the final quarter of 2011 derived from mobile and tablet devices. Mobile search ad clickthroughs were reported to have been 5% of the total in the previous quarter of 2011.
In the final quarter of 2011, 6% of search clicks came from smartphones and 4% from tablets. These devices drove higher clickthrough rates than desktops. Other reports showed findings on CTRs on tablet search ads were 37% higher, and on smartphones, 31% higher than desktop search ads.
A separate report has showed rapid growth in mobile search activity and ad spend, and that among retailers, ad spend for mobile search accounted for just over 14% of total paid search budgets. The report also showed that mobile ad search impressions increased by 317% between the final quarters of 2010 and 2011, while ad spend grew by 269 percent.
