The latest news announced by shopping .com is their new listing policy. The main change that will affect merchants advertising on shopping.com is the increase in required fields that are mandatory within the merchants data feed. The new policy comes into effect on July 1st 2010.
Shopping.com has tripled their mandatory fields from 3 to 9. The expansion of required fields looks as follows:
- MPN or UPC
- Merchant SKU
- Product Name
- Product URL
- Product Price
The reason behind the change to their listing policy is said to be to improve consumer experience. It comes on the back of the price comparison site increasing the image size of listings, including a higher level of detail within product descriptions, introducing availability information and improving navigation.
Therefore, in order to improve the experience for the consumers they require more information from merchants, this will be provided within the data feed produced by the merchant. This is placing the importance of the quality of the feed produced by the merchant. Network Intellects mantra has always been; Information is Key! For this reason:
Better quality information = Richer Consumer Experience = Improved Conversion to Sale
We hope this information helps your company increase their sales and ROI, especially during these difficult economic times. If you would like more information regarding feeds or would like help producing data feeds for the shopping engines please take a look at our Price Comparison Site Service.
