Many members of the social networking site, LinkedIn, have yet to work out how to effectively use LinkedIn and gain benefits from the site.
With this in mind, here are four easy techniques for enhancing the way you use the social network:
1. Updates Are Easy
LinkedIn offers great potential to everyone who uses it, in that they can opt in to receiving notifications about what everyone else in their network is doing, who they are meeting and where they are going. It is therefore an effective form of broadcasting your schedule and activities.
Each time you have something new to share, while may not receive an instant response, you can be certain that others are aware of what you are doing.
2. Study Status Updates
Just as your contacts are reading about you, have a look at what they are doing. This can provide you with opportunities. For example you may notice a contact’s status change from employed to independent. You could then consider reaching out to them and giving that person access to your network. This kind of gesture is part of what social networking is all about, such as communicating and connecting.
3. Study Who Is Looking For You
LinkedIn has a “Who’s Viewed Your Profile?” feature. This identifies individuals who are interested in you, what you do and where you work. Consider these inquiries as leads for your career and business. You may recognize some of the viewers, which gives you a great opportunity to reconnect. Other views may provide you with hints that your latest marketing campaign has created a certain level of curiosity. Over time, you are likely to gather important insights from this feature.
4. Explain Your Reason For Connecting
One of the biggest complaints that crops up is when users make random requests to connect with each other without providing any explanation. This is impersonal and is a wasted chance to lay down the foundation for a relationship and follow-up conversation. Spend an extra minute or so explaining why you are connecting. Most people are more likely to reply, and quickly, when there is a reason to do so.
